Jong-in is truly a mashup of all cultures, and his apartment shows it.

Mei had known Jongin from the brief time they had been schooled together in Canada, and was excited to hear that he attended Mason when her parents decided to send her. She had been impressed by his Mandarin, despite the short amount of time that he had spent living in China, and was looking forward to seeing him again.
She knocked on his apartment door, pulling one of her pigtails over her shoulder and waiting patiently.

Jongin yawned and stretched out his arms as he heard the door being knocked, pushing himself up from the sofa where he had been napping and running over to the mirror in the halls. He fixed his hair and opened the door, looking at Mei and smiling.
"Hey." He said in their native language, bowing slightly and inviting her in. He hadn't seen her too long ago, but he was glad she was here in the US.

Mei smiled at Jongin, giving him a little wave.
"Hi!" She replied rather excitedly. "I haven't seen you in so long!"

New Day
Jongin unzipped his suitcase as he walked into his room. They hadn't had long between the Seoul exchange and the camping trip with Berkeley, but he didn't mind. He had been really lazy in the past week and had been living out of the clothes he left in his wardrobe. As soon as the Korean kids left Mason now, it would be finals, and then summer. He wanted to visit home over the summer, as he missed his little sister more than anything, but right now he was just focused on the the present.

Jongin's Dad
Jongin's father had travelled quite the distance to come and tell him something very important, something he couldn't truly explain over the phone. Beside him was Nini, Jongin's younger sister. He knocked on the door once and turned the handle, shaking his head slightly when the door opened. Typical Jongin- he'd soon learn to lock it.
"Go find big brother." He tells Nini, smiling.
Nini
Nini runs into her brother's apartment, searching around the living room and kitchen before noticing a door slightly ajar and running inside, finding Jongin with his suitcase unzipped inside and wrapping her small arms and legs around his left leg.

Jongin was unpacking his suitcase when he heard a little noise from the hallway and rolled his eyes. Noisy neighbours, he thought. He looked back down at his belongings, and before he can even look up there is a small child wrapped around his leg. He looked down and almost had a heart attack.
"Nini!" He said, taking his younger sibling and holding her in his arms. "Why are you here?"
He looked at his door, from where Nini had come from, and stepped into the main room of his apartment.

Jongin's Dad
Jongin's Dad had walked into the apartment by now, and closed the door behind him. He was looking at the items on the shelves, and wondered how Jongin had accumulated so many possessions in such a short time. He looked up as his son walked into the room and smiled warmly.
"Ah, Jongin." He says, speaking in his own native tongue- Korean. Technically, Jongin had two native tongues, but he knew he spoke Mandarin much better than Korean and his own Mandarin was quite lacking now they'd lived in Canada for around ten years. "We need to talk."

It had been a while since Jongin had needed to speak in Korean, even though it was one of his two technical native languages. Even so, after a couple of seconds Jongin managed to decipher what his father had said and strung together a short sentence.
"Yeah, we do. Sit down." He says, gesturing towards the couch and taking a seat himself, placing Nini down next to him.

Jongin's Dad
Jongin's father takes a seat on the couch and sighs lightly.
"There's a lot to tell." He explains, giving his son a nod to be quiet as he explained. "Your mother isn't here. She's... She's in hospital. We don't know how long for, but so far we have been told it will be at least four weeks. That's when your summer starts, right? Well, I need something from you. I need you to look after Nini until then. I'll pay for everything, and I'll return the favour if and when you need it. There is nobody else I can ask."

Jongin allows a moment for his brain to translate and then another for the new information to sink in. His mother was in hospital? He had known she'd had a few problems, but it hadn't seemed that bad.
"Okay." He says calmly, placing his hands on his lap. "Okay. I'll watch over Nini. But I want to visit my mom and you goddamn better tell me if she gets any worse."
Jongin had needed to grow up faster than his physically could in the past, and now was a time where his more mature side needed to act. He didn't need to freak out until later.

Jongin's Dad
Jongin's dad held his hand up.
"I swear. I don't know how I'm ever going to repay you- I can't thank you enough." He says, bowing his head slightly. He had wheeled a little suitcase in for Nini when he entered and it stood by the door- he wasn't going to be staying for even the rest of the day.
"Nini, you'll be good for Jongin, okay?" He says, tapping her knee gently and kissing her forehead. "Daddy will see you soon."
And with that, he was gone, out of the door before anything further could be asked.

Jongin watched as his father left before putting his head in his hands, resting his elbows on his knees and sighing. It was okay. He would freak out after he put Nini to bed- as soon as he figured out where she would sleep. It was after a minute that he figured he couldn't do this by himself, at least not for the first couple of days. He was fine being responsible for himself, but that responsiblity plus that of another person's was stressing him out just thinking about it. He picked up his phone and shot Jaehyun a text.

Jae ran through the apartment block to Jongin's apartment. Even though they lived in the same block, their actual apartments were pretty far apart. He knocked once on the door before entering, knowing Jongin usually left the door unlocked.
"Are you alright?" He asked, looking at the young girl sat next to him and forming an 'O' with his mouth.

Jongin nodded gently and moved his arms to introduce the two.
"Jae, this is my little sister, Nini. She only speaks English. Nini, this is my friend, Jae." He says, giving Jae a sort of distressed face so that he didn't have to voice it in front of Nini.
