All the boys and girls, jump in the air.

At the very back end of the field, out of the view of students, is a small area just aside from the route to the teacher's dorms allocated for the staff to smoke. Although the school does not promote smoking, they accept that people over the legal age have the right to smoke and so provide an area for them. No students are allowed here.

After a stressful yet productive first day, Jesse only saw it fit for him to have a little smoke. He had been trying to cut down on it lately, but despite his efforts he had just kept lighting them up. He let out a small sigh before pulling his Marlboro pack out of his pocket and the lighter too, placing a cigarette between his lips and lighting it.
As the smoke began to rise from the burning end, Jesse began to relax. It was a smell that reminded him of good times, and made him feel calm almost instantly. A bad habit, maybe, but a good healer metaphorically. He took his first puff, enjoying the silence in the desolate area.

Lyndon's curiosity was going to be the death of him some day. As he walks down the path towards the teacher's dormitory after a long day of lectures about the upcoming exams, his nose picks of the faint scent of cigarette smoke. Ugh. He knew the smoking area was around here, but hardly any of the teachers ever went there and so the smell wasn't usually a feature of this pathway. But today, it seemed as if things were different. And Lyndon's curiosity brought him to divert off the path, towards the allocated area for teacher smoking, until he found the charming teacher he had met before with a lit cigarette between his fingers.
"I was wondering what that damned scent was." He mumbles, taking a seat on one of the logs.

Jesse hadn't been paying attention until now, but as soon as someone spoke he snapped back into reality, noticing it was the other teacher he had met before. He looked down at the cigarette he was holding after he stopped speaking, finally realising what he meant. He didn't quite understand what the statement was supposed to imply, but a gentle shrug and he started to reply.
"Oh, I'm sorry." He said quietly, before taking another puff of the cigarette. He guessed it was probably not a great time to do so, but after all, that was what he was here for. He wondered why the other teacher was here. "Oh, I never quite caught your name, either."

Lyndon gives a quick nod, watching as he smoked. Damn, he thought, he's a smoker. Just as he was about to ask who he actually was, the other man already asks.
"Oh, I'm Lyndon. Lyndon Whiteside. I teach English and Drama." He says, as if he was introducing himself to a total stranger. Which, he guess, he sort of was.

Jesse gave him a little nod as he introduced himself. He guessed it made sense, too- the amazing range vocabulary this man was using was quite truly impressive, if not slightly old-fashioned. He took yet another drag from his cigarette, blowing out the smoke downwards slowly.
"Well, Lyndon, I'm Jesse. Jesse Thompson, and I teach Music." He says with a small smile plastered on his face.

It was oh-so obvious that Jesse was a music teacher. If Lyndon was given the guess before now, it would probably have been his answer. He shoots him a quick smile. "How brilliant." He says, running a hand through his quiff.

"Indeed." Is all that Jesse can conjure up. He thought it perfectly joked about Lyndon's love for outdated and complex words, and smiled slightly after saying so, before taking another drag from his cigarette. He just couldn't stop looking at Lyndon's face, and how the perfect shadow fell on it from where he was sat, and how his eyebrows made even an expressionless face look admirable. It was simply charming.

After a little bit of thought on how to word his next question and a small laugh at Jesse's tasteful mockery, Lyndon decides to ask about his smoking. "So, are you a full-time smoker, or is it just the occasional cigarette here and there?" He asks with a sincere smile, glancing at the cigarette.

Jesse wasn't at all surprised that Lyndon had asked him that particular question. In fact, he had almost been waiting for it. Many people had asked him before, and he always received different reactions. For example, his mother was quite upset with him but accepted that it was his life and his decision.
"Oh, I smoke every day. Possibly not as many as I used to, but still consistently." He explains, shooting Lyndon a small smile as he did.
