Welcome, welcome! Today is a very magical day, where all of the Mason High seniors have reached that time in their lives where they have to graduate high school. On this very special day, they will receive their diplomas and officially leave the school, leading on to wonderful lives of their own.
Many rows of chairs have been set out neatly along the back field, directed towards a small, black podium with a little microphone in the middle. The seniors will sit in these chairs in alphabetical order, and one by one be called up to receive their diploma. As they walk down the steps, they will pose for a photograph before returning to their seats. Once all of the students have been called, and all of the speeches have been heard, the tassels on the graduation caps may be flipped over and thrown up.
Then, they will have the opportunity to either take photos with their friends, family and teachers or go home to their graduation parties, because face it- you made it!

Linda walks up the steps of the podium, sighing as she did so. Another year over. Another group of wonderful young adults to be set free into the world. It was a beautifully sad occasion, but also something to celebrate, because there had been so many achievements throughout the past four years of these people's lives. And she was so very proud of each and every one of them. [break][break] She stands in front of the microphone, preparing herself for the speech she was about to give to the students in front of her. No, not students.Graduates.[break][break] "Welcome, all. This is a very... Joyous day for you all. Today is the day where you become true adults. [break][break] "It's hard to believe that four years have gone by so quickly. Your compulsory education is coming to a halt here. It's unbelievable. But I'm so very proud of you all, because behind me are diplomas, and many of them. [break][break] "It breaks my heart to have to say goodbye to you all. It breaks my heart to think that I'll never pass you in the hallway again and see a wonderful smile on your faces. But it fills me with pride to say that each and every one of you have earned your diplomas, here, today. [break][break] "So, I'd like to invite up some guest speakers to receive their diplomas first, before every one of you is free to go. And I'd just like to ask for a round of applause, because you truly deserve it. [break][break] "Let's give it up for you, and your next guest speaker, Steven McCloughen!" Linda finishes with tears brimming, and walks away from the microphone, joining in with the audience's applause.

Steven smiles to his friends beside him, before sliding out of the row, walking down the aisle and up to the podium. He takes the microphone and a deep breath before beginning to speak.
"So, it's been a little while since we started here. Yeah, four years. And throughout these years, I've made some of the most amazing people and done some pretty amazing things that I never thought I'd do. We visited France, Arizona, Mexico, New York... And we took so many tests. But nothing could have prepared us for our Finals last week. Nothing could have prepared us for today, our graduation. But we made it through Finals. And we made it to today. So everyone, give yourself a big pat on the back, because we can now say that we made it!" He says, stepping away from the microphone and taking his diploma. He shakes a couple of hands, including Ms. Kirkbridge's, and begins his way down the steps, posing for a photograph. He couldn't stay for very long, but he stops under a shady tree, watching as all his friends received their diplomas.
He still quite couldn't believe it. High school was over.

Linda claps as Steven collects his diploma, wiping away the tears that had begun to roll down her cheeks as his speech went on. This group of seniors had by far been one of her favourites, despite the challenges that they had brought on. [break][break] She pushes herself from the plastic seat laid at the side of the podium and stands behind the microphone again; readying herself for the next group of seniors that she would call out. [break][break] “That was a truly touching speech. And now, we’ll get to the rest of the diplomas. [break][break] “Firstly, let’s give a round of applause for Skyler Ashley!” She says, taking a couple of steps away from the microphone and clapping herself.

Skyler takes a deep breath as he hears his name being called, glancing over at Steven under the tree and giving him a quick nod before pushing his way into the aisle, making it up to the podium quite quickly as he didn’t want to waste any time. He shook Ms. Kirkbridge’s hand, and a couple of other important-looking people’s hands too, before collecting his diploma and walking down the steps, posing in a silly way for his photograph before running over to Steven, leaning against the tree with him. [break][break] “If my parents knew what we were doing tonight, they’d flip their shit.” He tells him with a small laugh. Man, it felt good to be done with school.

[break][break] “Well, firstly, I’m gonna check if they’re watching TV. If they are, we’re doing a Rapunzel, and you’re going to throw pebbles at my window when you pull up. Just… Put some pillows at the bottom, okay? If they’re already in bed, knock on my door quietly. I’ll tell them that I’ll get it, grab my stuff and go. They can’t do much when I’m gone, right?” He explains, a mischievous grin plastered over his face. He was excited for this evening, and talking about it was just adding to it.

His parents watched TV in the back room most nights, however the staircase in the hall was right by the door of the back room and the sofa was placed so cleverly that they would be able to see any movement from the staircase to the hall, so it was pretty useless trying to sneak through there unless he was prepared to make a mad dash for it without being caught by his father, who had been a track team ace back in the day. [break][break] Skyler looks over to the podium, and it seemed as if the next name was about to be called, so he gestured to Steven to be silent.

She was quite confused as to why they were stood there, but then again, it was none of her business and she had to call out the next graduate. [break][break] “And next, we’ll have Jessica Fadden!” She announces, looking into the crowd and applauding with them as she stepped away from the microphone again. She had done this many times, but she wouldn’t be doing it again after next year. She was already planning to resign, but that would be a worry for the year to come.

Jessica squeals and puts her hands over her mouth like receiving the diploma was a complete surprise, and turns to squeeze Parker’s hand before making her way into the aisle, strutting up to the podium like a supermodel on the catwalk. She does little bunny hops up the steps, making herself seem sweet and graceful, and shakes Ms. Kirkbridge’s hand, along with a couple of other people’s hands, before collecting her diploma and grinning. [break][break] She heads down the exit steps, stopping halfway down to pose for her graduation photo before heading back to the row of seats that she was sat on before. She knew it was Parker next, and so wanted to be there when he got back. She sits down and turns to him with a little smile on her face. [break][break] “Good luck, babe.” She tells him with a small nod before turning to look at the podium again.

Jessica wasn’t one of Linda’s favourite students, however she didn’t want to be biased as she knew that she had earned her diploma. Parker pats Jessica on the shoulder and heads up to collect his diploma, shaking Ms. Kirkbridge's hand and instead of quickly exiting the podium, he walks up to the microphone, tapping on it.
"Right. So before I leave this place for good, I'd just like to say something. Four awesome years, that's how long I've been here. And three of them have been dominated by my girlfriend and prom date from last week, Jessica Fadden. Well, you know what? I'm done with you. You wear me out." He says, laughing as he walks down the steps, posing smartly for a photograph before joining Skyler and Steven. "I've been waiting to do that for so long, now."
