History: Daniel was adopted at 4 months by the Hope-Backster family and discovered this when he was 11. He was fully accepting of this and realised how much the Hope-Backsters had really done for him, causing him to be extremely grateful of every simple gesture. It is not known who his real parents were, as he was left at the doorstep of an orphanage on the day of his birth with a small note of gratitude for taking the baby in, but Daniel doesn’t mind this as it would only make him extremely angry with them for abandoning him. But apart from being totally accepting of his adoption, he dove straight into a deep depression soon after beginning middle school. Everything around him started to feel faded and out of his reach. Every night he would lie, staring at the ceiling with tears streaming down his cheeks. And at 14, he began self-harming. At first, it was only a few cuts at his thighs, but it soon ended up being streaks and streaks of little wounds down his arms. After about six months of this happening, his foster father noticed a big change in his attitude and the way he dressed. It was always long sleeves and wristbands, and he never wanted to go out anymore. After a small confrontation, Daniel broke down on his lap and he started going to counselling. It really started to help, too. At one point, Daniel was 9 months clean and usually super perky, particularly around his family. But he got bad again in the middle of Freshman year, and hid it from his counsellor, who thought he was improving dramatically. At the end of Sophomore year, he attempted suicide, but it was a failed attempt. Over the summer, Daniel spent his time with the "crazies" where he realised how lucky he was not to have a mental illness like one of theirs, and left there at the start of Junior year with a strict prescription for a new counsellor. And now... He's getting better. Ish.
